I told myself when maternity leave begins, I wouldn't watch TV between the hours of 8am and 5pm, just to ensure I didn't completely waste my important time with zoning out. It's 10:44am and I'm watching "Child Stars Gone Bad" on E!. So Day 3 and I'm already zoning! Oh well, I'm forgiving myself because I had a big day yesterday, and I'm recovering! My mom came up yesterday to go to "Dream Dinners" with me. I wanted to blog about it because it might be something you want to do! If you haven't heard about it, it's this company that has locations all over (see www.dreamdinners.com). You go there to prepare 12 meals that all freeze well, and then you can defrost and cook them quickly on a week night after work. It's an easy way to have homecooked meals without all the shopping, prep work and cleanup! I've done it a few times, and the food has always been really great and it's been really easy. It's the perfect thing for post-baby, since we'll have a bunch of frozen dinners ready for easy cooking. But it was tiring when you are 8 months pregnant! Plus, beforehand we walked around downtown Pleasanton, which was fun but tiring as well. A fun day, but I need a day of rest now! I also had a doc appointment yesterday; I'm not dialated at all yet, which is good news because I won't be going into labor within the next week most likely. I'm sure I'll be so focused on not going into labor too early, I'll end up going two weeks late! Oh well, we shall see... Anyway, I'll keep this one relatively short. Hope all is well with everyone!
April 2006 Archives
Well, it's the first day of maternity leave! I'm officially disabled on a short term basis, so I should be getting my disability check from Uncle Sam soon. It' s weird not to worry about work; yes, I've checked my work email three times already today! Old habits are hard to break. I feel confident that everything will be okay while I"m out though...the best idea I had was to hire an intern for the summer!! We ended up hiring a friend of mine from school, and I know he's going to be a huge help while I'm out over the summer, and it sounds like he's getting exactally the experience he wanted for summer work. So it's great! I can leave with relatively little guilt that I've dumped on my coworkers. :) Anyway, enough about work, the category of this entry is "Baby!" so let's get to the subject at hand!!
First, a big CONGRATULATIONS to my hoya buds that are pregnant! Just in case they don't want to be acknowledged by name, I'll keep in on the DL, but you know who you are. It's so exciting! At our 10 year, we'll all be ragged and tired and covered in strained peas. I can't wait!
As for me, the countdown has begun to the due date of May 19. I have a werid feeling I'll be early. We checked the lunar cycle and it's a full moon the week before, so I'm guessing I'll go around the 12th. Hopefully not any earlier than that, my last class is on May 8! My profs have been cool thus far, so even if I miss the last class, it shouldn't be an issue at all. I'm getting excited! A bit nervous too... I went to my friend's baby shower last weekend, and she had a friend who had a 10month old who had the largest head I've ever seen on a baby. I could hardly look at him, I kept imagining Baby O with that size noggen and just how painful it would be! She ended up having to get a c-section at the last minute. I know, labor is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get. (I just made that up, aren't I clever?) Anyway, for the most part I"m excited, even though I know it's going to be challenging, but it'll all be worth it.
I've got a few pictures to share, click on...
Well, I went through all the pictures I had on my camera from my baby shower, and there are no good ones showing my new girth! I'll post a few so you can get a flavor, but it's not representative of the space I'm taking up on the earth right now. We are thinking of getting some professional pics taken before the birth, but I swear, all the examples I see are soo cheezy!! So many examples I've seen women draped in toga like things showing off their bellies, and I just could not imagine myself in a million years doing that. I would giggle the whole time and feel stupid, and who in the world would I want to see those anyway? I don't know, I like the idea of getting professional shots of Cory & me when I'm pregnant, but I might wait until after the baby is born to get some family shots. I found a great local photographer and I really like her pictures. She does some Anne Geddes type shots in the first weeks of baby's life, and you can use them for announcements. I think I'll just do that, and we'll work in a few shots of me with baby, Cory with baby, maybe even Ollie with baby (and mom & dad, of course). Anyway, click on for the few pics of my shower!
