I discovered the joys of breastfeeding in bed this morning...Audrey had a surprisingly good night last night, after a not so surprisingly horrid evening. She cried from about 6 until 9, when daddy blessedly took her for a car ride and gave me an hour sleep (I think Cory needed to decompress after Edmonton lost game 7 hence the cup, sorry Canuk's). When they got back at 10, she was right back at it, so I nursed her to sleep and she finally went down around 10:30. Then she only woke up at 2:30 and then again at 6:30 - two four hour stretches, so not too bad (I'm sure all of this time keeping is riveting blog material!). Anyway, I wanted her to go back down for a few more hours this morning, but she would have none of it. I tried until about 8, when I thought I'd try this whole breastfeeding in bed thing, and it was great! being able to nurse her and then not have to move her worked like a charm, she was out and then I could snooze. We did that till about 10:30, and it was great. I just hope we have a better day today. She still seems to be hungry more often than our 3 hour schedule. And she doesn't seem to want to nap as much during the day...I guess that happens as they get older. It's just like we discovered with Ollie...we were first feeding him food he wasn't so jazzed about, so he didn't eat much, hence his energy levels were pretty mellow. Once we found him a food he really liked, he required many more walks and romps in the backyard. We briefly discussed going back to the food that kept him near starvatation, but realized that would make us bad parents!
So things are moving right along. Cory had a good Father's Day, hopefully. To my surprise he wanted to go shopping, so we went to Stanford Shopping Center and bought him some clothes. Then he wanted to tear up the deck and replace some termite stricken wood. Go figure! I find myself living for the weekends when I have somebody else around to talk to, plus I can take twenty minutes to go to Starbucks without it being a big production. I'm trying to investigate things to do with babies, as I feel I'm going stir crazy. But then again, I worry if I start schlepping her around more than I already have, she's just going to be a nightmare every evening. I'll have to find a good balance, and hopefully as she grows older this summer, she'll be able to handle more stimulation. It's such a catch 22 -- I have until September off of work, and I'd like to make the most of it by taking Audrey out for day trips to the zoo, the park, various hikes, etc. But I don't think she'll be able to handle all of that moving around, plus we need someplace to nurse every 3 to 4 hours. I'm sure I'll find a balance.
I've done some investigating into things to do, and I'm excited about several of them. First, I've already signed up for baby yoga through Fremont parks and rec - I guess we use our babies as weights while doing various yoga poses. There is also this Baby Boot Camp thing - http://www.babybootcamp.com/ - groups of moms and thier babies get together a few times a week with a personal trainer and do various exercises, encorporating your baby or just letting them sleep in the stroller next to you. I'll probably give that a try. There is also a movie theater in Oakland that each monday night, they allow people to bring infants in to watch the latest movie. They serve beer and food, and you can watch the movie on a couch, apparrently. Nobody can get mad at you if your baby cries because they all have babies too! Similarly, in Salinas, there is a movie theater that has "crying rooms" in the back of the theater that you can sit in with an infant, and if they cry the room is sealed so you don't bug the rest of the people. We're going to Salinas in a few weeks, so we'll have to try to see "Cars" while we're there!
Enuf pontificating. Audrey is asleep in her swing now, and hopefully she'll stay that way until 2, our next feeding time. Until the next time she's asleep and I have more complaining to do!! :)
