I've joined the Revolution

Okay! I'm ready to write about my new job!!! I'm four days into it, and I am so far thrilled with my decision to move to Revolution Foods. We're a foodservice company that provides healthy school lunches to kids in the Bay Area, and we're expanding quickly to Los Angeles, and perhaps more cities for the 2008-2009 school year. I'm the Controller, or head geek accountant, but they did need extra hands making lasagna's this week, so I donned a hairnet and pitched in. It's awesome working for a start up, I love being so involved in everything, from soup to nuts, literally! We're located in Alameda, which is right next to Oakland. We actually operate, ironically, out of an old McDonald's. They boarded up the drive-thru and tricked out the kitchen for the purpose of assembling the lunches, and our "admin" desk area is where the dining room used to be. All the meals are mostly organic, the beef is hormone and antibiotic free, and we serve mostly schools in areas of the SFBay that needs more assistance with nutrition eduction. We might be on the morning news in a few weeks, so if I can get the footage I'll try to figure out how to blog it! Well, that's it for now! Happy 2008!!!

In New Years' Recovery

Ack! I can't believe I didn't write at all during December! Well, okay, I actually can believe it. Lots of stuff going on, and little I could blog about since I had to be a bit stealthy about one aspect of my life. You see, Friday is my last day of work at my current company, I'm starting a new job on Monday. But I don't want to talk about that yet, I'll talk about it after I start! Now, I want to recap our holidays!

We had a white Christmas this year in Canada - we split our time between Edmonton and Red Deer, where the Omands & McLeod's hail from. We had a blast! Audrey was definitely taken aback at the zero-degree temps, but she quickly acclimated and realized so long as she had a hat and mittens on, she could have just as much fun! And of course, Christmas was a day of chaos, gluttony and Leap Frog toys. I'm surprised we didn't go over our luggage weight limits coming back! But we made it, albeit a day late due to a mechanical issue. Our fun surprise when we got back to our car, however, was that we left a 3/4 full sippy cup of milk in the car for the week we were gone. It had turned into a lovely blob of cheeze, and made the Subaru smell quite nasty.
