Bad news and good news...

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas! Or Happy Holidays, if that offends. I hate the news, they turn such stupid things into huge deals, like Santa means Satan and reindeers are devils. Anyway, don't want to get off on a tangent, I have important news to tell!

We got back from Canada on Tuesday evening/Wednesday morning, since we touched down after midnight. I hate flying, there was a small child whining behind us for the whole three hour flight, and while I simpathized with his mother and with him (I wanted my mommy to make it stop too), I also wanted to throw him out the plane, or at least throttle him until he could whine no more. My maternal instincts kicking in...

Anway, Christmas was as lovely as it could be under the circumstances. Cory's Grandpa Glen passed away two days after our arrival in Canada. We hadn't even had a chance to visit him yet. He was in the hospital on and off all year, and we knew his health wasn't the best, but even so, we didn't expect him to pass away. He wasn't by any means in critical condition, so we were very suprirsed and saddened when we got the news. It was great that we were up there, and could spend Christmas with the whole family. While the whole event brought back too many memories of Christmas when I was twelve and my own beloved Grandpa passed away suddenly from a cerebral hemorage on December 21. It made Christmas so much more difficult, to open presents for Grandpa when he wasn't there. It also brought back memories of just this summer. My Grandma passed away on July 2, and we were planning on visiting her in the hospital on July 4. I was so sad I didn't get to see her one more time, but I guess no matter what the timing was, I would've always felt that way. Anyhow, I was again saddened that we didn't get to see Grandpa Glen one more time; I remember years ago when I met him, I got choked up when I told him how happy I was to have a Grandpa again. I loved my Grandpa Jim so much, and when I lost him when I was 12, I really felt the loss. There's just something about a Grandpa/Granddaughter relationship, and Glen was so much like Grandpa Jim that I felt the same connection with him when we were visiting Canada. I know Cory has a great amount of love and respect for him, as do I....Glen, you will be missed, and we love you very much.

Anyhow, I will post my good news in another post...

It's been so long since last we've met...

Okay, I'm sorry it's been so long since last I blogged...I've gotten some feedback that some people actually check back here from time to time, and I'm not giving them any new news! Perhaps it's because life has been somewhat ho-hum of late....I just turned in my final paper for fall semester yesterday! So now at least I have no school worries to be concerned about (until I get my grades!). My paper was on the impact of Sarbanes Oxley on Innovation in Corporate America...thrilling, huh? (If anyone would like a copy, please send a self addressed stamp envelope and $3.95 IP fee to... oh forget it!). My conclusion was that even though SOX is harming small companies, the SEC will likely not do anything about it. And today, the SEC is doing something about it! A day late and a dollar short, the SEC decided to absolve small cap companies of some of the SOX requirements. So there goes my thesis.

Gross title, I know, and after I haven't posted for a couple weeks! I'll get around to explaining the title in a minute. First, I hope everyone had a happy and healthy Turkey Day! We did - we were at Oakwood Ranch, of course, celebrating with the Wood's and the Harmon's. It was a typical thanksgiving, with the gourmet meal cooked by Mom - not without some headache, of course, and her thinking everything didn't turn out perfect when it actually did. Dad was still a pain in the butt, yelling at mom to prepare appetizers that he hardly eats any more. He's had gastric bypass surgery, in case I hadn't mentioned that. It was little Mia's first Thanksgiving, and she could eat some of the fixings with all four of her teeth. And sadly, it was the first Thanksgiving wtihout Grandma, so no green bean and mushroom soup casserole. Mom said she didn't make it because it was only Grandma's fav, but I loved it too! Maybe next year we can make it again. While we missed having Grandma at the table, it all comes full circle; she got to celelbrate 91 Thanksgivings, and now the countown for little Mia begins at #1!

Did I not promise puppies & babies?

My Mom just sent me pics of her new puppy Punkin & my niece Mia...click on to see!!
